Can the same power that runs a drill soon by running ultra fuel efficient cars? Well Tata in India has come up with the cutest little car that runs off of tanks of compressed air, or on an engine that compresses air as it goes along. Apparently a tank of compressed air is good for a commute, and will keep the air car running for 60 miles at a maximum speed of 35 mph. The small motor can keep the car running for 800 miles And they will burn a variety of fuels from normal gasoline to vegetable oil.

And car costs are not high either, with retail stickers expected to be about $20,000 for a cute little CAV. Compare that to $40,000 and up for hybrid cars on the market today. And even if the car runs totally on gasoline, it gets well over 100 mpg, but it can also be plugged into the wall for a fresh tank of compressed air.

The Compressed Air Car is not in production yet, but factories are expected to be producing the car for commercial sale by 2011. Apparently TATA, and Indian company, plans to sell the specifications, fully tooled factories, and trademark rights to other companies, rather than just owning all the production outright. The factories will produce the cars for sale to the public.
